Scholarship Details
The Society of Lake Management professionals (SLMP) is seeking applications for its annual Student Scholarship Award. SLMP intends to award $6,000 (1st– $3,000, 2nd – $2,000 and 3rd – $1,000) in scholarships to the top three successful applicants at the January 2025 SLMP Summit.
Scholarship funds are provided directly to the student and may be used by the recipient to cover costs associated with education, project/research expenses. Eligible applicants should be enrolled as full-time undergraduate or graduate students in an accredited college or university within the United States. Exceptions will be made for technical schools as well as other employment or jobs that have stimulated ideas or products that make life easier for lake managers. Focus should be related to water quality, equipment innovation, limnology, aquatic plant management, aquaculture, fisheries management, or aquatic ecology of private waters. Heck if you have an idea about a new piece of equipment that makes life easier for the industry please apply. It is simple and FREE MONEY. We want people to apply that are looking for a job in this industry. There are plenty of jobs out there. Each winner will be assigned a mentor for the event.
We are also considering giving out grant money if we feel the project has merit and will help the industry. So DO NOT feel like your ideas don’t matter. Please apply!
Application must be received no later than December 16, 2024 (the earlier the better) and will be evaluated based on:
Quality of coursework and/or research and idea/invention (trade schools, high school and 2 year programs are encouraged to apply. WE WANT USEFUL talks to better the industry |

Does the project have clearly defined goals, with clear ideas of how the applicant plans to achieve that goal and what the end result will be? |

Statement of career goals as well as special interests and enthusiasm. |
In person presentation: The top three candidates will be asked to attend the meeting and present with 3 nights hotel paid for as well as summit registration waived. Awards as follows 1st place $3,000 – 2nd place – $2,000 and 3rd place $1,000. |

How to Apply
- Send a document describing your work and how it will positively impact the industry.
- List three references with knowledge of the project.
- If you are chosen as one of the top three, you will be requested to present at the meeting in Myrtle Beach. Final placement for awards will be partially based on the presentation and your participation at the summit. But, if you are invited, you will receive one of the top 3 money awards.
